The hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis pathway of class I methanogens. The pathway diagram was adapted from [5] with permission from the author and publisher. The fourth step of this pathway can be catalyzed by either Hmd, which uses H2 as an electron donor, or Mtd, which uses F420•H2 as an electron donor. H4MPT = tetrahydromethanopterin, F420 = coenzyme F420, and HTP = S-S-7-mercaptoheptanoylthreonine phosphate.
