All the distributions have been obtained for q = 0.8. The population for Kq = 1 is the uniform distribution obtained in classical error catastrophe (see text for details). For a greater or lesser value of Kq, the population is displaced to nearest or farther Hamming classes, respectively. Part B. Average Hamming distance as a function of 1-q, for different values of Kq. The changes in Kq does not modify the error threshold, but the average Hamming distance at the error catastrophe is modified as a consequence of the displacement of the population showed in part A of the figure.
